Glendale’s New Partnership Works to Destigmatize Affordable Housing

Glendale, in partnership with the Maricopa Association of Governments, is leading the “Home is Where it All Starts” campaign to promote affordable housing across Arizona. This initiative addresses the stigma surrounding affordable housing and emphasizes its crucial role in community well-being. Arizona is experiencing a severe housing shortage, with only 26 rental units available for every 100 extremely low-income households. Glendale’s poverty rate exceeds 17%, leading to a 29% increase in homelessness since 2020, according to the Arizona Department of Economic Security. To tackle these issues, Glendale has collaborated with developers to introduce over 1,300 affordable housing units by 2025. One notable development is Centerline on Glendale, located at 6775 N. 67th Ave and developed by Gorman & Co. This mixed-income project will offer modern amenities at affordable rates, aligning with the city’s dedication to providing accessible housing solutions.
