The Phoenix Planning and Development Department has proposed measures to simplify and enhance the building permit process, focusing on improving efficiency. Following seven listening sessions, the department has identified seven key areas for improvement: updating processes (including welcoming walk-ins and reintroducing in-person zoning adjustment hearings), modifying plan review and permit requirements to simplify site plans for specific projects, enhancing collaboration through annual listening sessions and reporting to the City Council, deploying new tools such as providing a guide on high-rise development, educating customers on submission and review processes, training new city team members in customer engagement, and updating zoning ordinances to align with the 2024 International Code Council standards for adoption in 2025. Mayor Kate Gallego expressed her enthusiasm for moving this plan forward.
