The former Ascension Lutheran Church site in Paradise Valley sold in July 2023 for $11 million to a developer that plans to make way for single-family homes.
Ascension is one of half a dozen metro Phoenix churches facing full or partial demolition as parishioners figure out new ways to use the space and capitalize on the value of the land underneath. The reuse and rebirth of old churches is part of a national shift.
