After Banning Rent Control, Austin Apartments Got Cheaper

After rent control was blocked by state law, Austin dramatically increased housing construction, allowing developers to add large amounts of new supply. As more apartments came online, rents have dropped to their lowest rate in decades. Austin is now increasingly cited as an example that building more housing is the most effective path to lower rents.
