What’s a perk of being a member of the Arizona Multihousing Association? Playing state senator for a day!
Over 20 members of Lyceum, AMA’s leadership development program, spent a day at the Arizona Capitol, and they took it over!
Starting out in the Senate Majority Conference room, participants learned about the inner workings of the Legislature and why some bills succeed and most fail.
The next part of the day took place on the actual Senate floor. The group was led by Sen. T.J. Shope from Coolidge and Rep. Sarah Liguori from Phoenix.
Lyceum participants were allowed to be on the floor and sit at senators’ desks for debate and voting. One ambitious member even volunteered to be the Senate President!
After debating vigorously and having lunch with the lawmakers, a tour of the old state Capitol building was next.
The tour guide was excellent, noting many little known facts about our great state. Want to know what they were? Come join us for the next Lyceum!
The year-long leadership development program identifies, informs, and empowers new and emerging leaders in the Arizona apartment industry. Participants learn about essential skills, such as leadership qualities and styles, building confidence, government affairs and legislative advocacy and participating in community engagement and activities, such as assembling kits for families moving into multifamily housing.
Graduates often go on to take on greater leadership roles, with some having joined the AMA Board of Directors.
