Arizona gained 23,600 jobs year-over-year in June, growing at 0.72% — more than double the national average of 0.32% — ranking 15th in the country, according to a new Common Sense Institute Arizona report. June marked the third consecutive month of year-over-year job growth after eight straight months of losses, with private sector hiring driving all of the gains across eight of 12 industry sectors. Arizona’s unemployment rate stands at 4.9%, tied for the nation’s fifth-highest, though economists note that figure is not historically unusual for the state.
