Developers could soon pay for Mesa’s water infrastructure

Mesa is proposing new fees for developers to help fund $400 million in water and wastewater projects needed for future growth, instead of pushing those costs onto current residents. Developers would pay based on meter size, with smaller projects getting temporary discounts and some developments grandfathered in if they apply before Jan. 1. City leaders say the fees keep growth from being subsidized by existing ratepayers and help avoid higher water bill increases for households.
