Developers Got Backing for Affordable Housing. Then the Neighborhood Found Out.

In an egregious example of NIMBYism, a community in South Carolina rezoned a county parcel to stop affordable apartments from being built after they were already approved and construction had begun. The developers are suing, saying the officials’ action had a “racially disparate impact” because most of the tenants would have been Black in a mostly white neighborhood. The article details the opportunities that children are denied or are offered based on where they live.
