Evictions are roaring back as landlords raise rent and affordable housing supply stalls

With pandemic-era protections such as the rent moratorium ending and assistance fading out and inflation creeping up, millions of people nationwide are facing eviction due to a pileup of unpaid rent bills. Filings are up more than 50 percent in some cities, with Phoenix at 33 percent. These figures don’t take into account population growth in these cities, however. The story also notes that 200 measures have been passed nationally to help renters, including sealing eviction records, providing legal assistance and requiring mediation before going to court.
