Gilbert Town Council postpones action on mega-apartment complex

A Gilbert apartment developer will have two months to meet with city staff about the 335-unit Modera Gabriella Pointe project, after the town council delayed a vote on its approval.

The community is planned to be built by Mill Creek Residential on vacant farmland at Higley Road and Elona Drive. The design also calls for commercial space with residential lofts on the top floor and a sky bridge connecting the lofts to the apartment building.

Two other major apartment projects are underway in the area: Tuscany at Gabriella Pointe, with 760 units, and Morrison Ranch Apartments, with 231 units.

Lawyer Brennan Ray, representing Mill Creek Residential, said the community is “the highest and best use for this particular piece of land.”

“We believe that this development will increase local spending power to strengthen commercial viability,” he said. “We are certainly providing additional housing options in what is, as we all know, a very desirable part of the town to live.”
