Habitat for Humanity of Northern Arizona and a local citizen group are fundraising to purchase the El Pueblo Motor Inn, a 1936 motel on Route 66 in Flagstaff that served as the recruitment hub for the first Navajo Code Talkers during World War II. The plan would restore the three existing historic buildings, construct 19 to 20 new workforce housing units behind them, and turn the rebuilt office into a museum. The $3 million fundraising goal would cover the purchase price and initial planning costs.
