HUD Funding Discussions Start in Congress

A key U.S. House subcommittee has proposed a 2026 budget of roughly $67 billion for the federal Department of Housing and Urban Development, slightly below last year’s level. The budget maintains funding for major programs like tenant-based rental assistance and homelessness grants, but zeroes out new funding for the HOME Investment Partnerships due to unspent balances. The proposal still faces further review in Congress, with industry groups urging full funding for affordable housing initiatives as the appropriations process continues through September.
