The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development and U.S. Department of the Interior have formed a joint task force to review building housing on federal land. The task force’s goal is to identify vacant federal lands that can accommodate affordable housing communities, support transferring that land for development, cutting red tape and raising awareness about the country’s housing crisis.
The National Apartment Association applauded move, calling it a “step in the right direction to increase housing availability and help lower housing costs for Americans.”
NAA advocated for lowering barriers for developers to build, streamlining federal regulations and creating incentives for construction to increase access to quality, affordable rental housing across the nation.
