Metro Phoenix housing crisis: Impact and solutions

Alison Cook-Davis, the associate director of research for the Morrison Institute for Public Policy at Arizona State University, recently gave a talk about the challenges facing developers of affordable housing. In a nutshell, building costs, zoning issues and opposition from neighbors ranked as the top issues. While costs aren’t easy to control, more affordable housing could be built with better solutions to frustrating, outdated zoning laws and educating NIMBYs to not resist providing homes for people like firefighters, nurses, police officers, teachers and construction workers who can’t afford median rent.
