Phoenix offices could become low-cost dorm-style housing

A new report suggests downtown Phoenix’s vacant office buildings could be converted into communal micro-apartments costing substantially less than new-build housing. Each floor would feature private sleeping rooms with shared kitchens and bathrooms, allowing rents around $850 per month. The concept would likely require public subsidies but could bring affordable housing online faster and at lower cost than traditional apartments.
