Phoenix’s population grew in 2024 — thanks to migration

New U.S. Census Bureau estimates show metro Phoenix grew by nearly 85,000 people from 2023-2024, largely due to immigrants from other countries.

Experts say these new residents boost the economy by driving more jobs needed in construction, retail and tourism.

Many U.S. cities are reliant on migration to grow because death rates are rising and fewer children are being born.

The metro Phoenix population change included 14,500 more births than deaths, 21,000 transplants from other U.S. cities and nearly 49,000 international newcomers.

In the Tucson area, nearly 8,400 new residents out of 11,500 were from outside the U.S.
