Surprise is getting 45 more units of affordable housing after Maricopa County supervisors OK’d the project and funding for it at its Feb. 28 meeting. The board approved $6 million in funding from the U.S. Housing and Urban Development’s HOME Investment Partnership Program and nearly $10.6 million in American Rescue Plan Act dollars for The Flats at El Mirage. The developer, El Mirage Housing, also is asking for $4 million from the Arizona Department of Housing to fund development costs and additional supportive services for onsite services for families in 13 of the units designated as short-term housing for those experiencing homelessness.
