Cities across the country are adopting pre-approved, architect-designed housing plans that can save builders up to $10,000 in upfront costs and trim weeks or months off permitting timelines, according to a new Pew Charitable Trusts report. At least 40 communities now offer such programs, with bipartisan federal housing legislation recently passed by the House including grants to help local governments adopt the approach.
