The National Apartment Association is tracking nearly 200 rent-control-related bills in state houses across the U.S., as well as 25 local ordinances. Thirty-six states prohibit local rent control. Industry groups warn such measures reduce housing supply and investment while failing to meaningfully improve affordability.
